Liulichang cultural street, which is located in NANXINHUA Street outside HEPINGMEN, Beijing and whose length from east to west is about 1 kilometer. There are no cloud--capped high rise buildings and luxurious dance halls and pubs here. However, as LIULICHANG cultural street has bout 200 years history and undergoes profound changes, it has its own peculiar style. The whole street is zigzag, simple and elegant, artistically recreating the charm of previous cultural street. Since the middle of Qing dynasty , when it is time for imperial examinations, refined scholars would assemble in the colored glaze factory,
Thus, merchants and peddlers set up shops and stalls here, most Beijing booked stores and antiques, calligraphy and paintings, and the “four treasures of the study”, such as writing brush , ink stick, ink slab, paper next to it. At that time, there were no libraries, so scholars have to look for the required books and data in the colored glaze factory. The scholars who came to Beijing for the imperial examinations also came here to buy their demanded books. Thus, the colored glaze factory was just like the cultural center of Beijing, since book house was set up the revise imperial collection of the tour in the 38th year of the Qianlong Emperior the Qing dynasty, Liulichang cultural street had become more prosperous.
